The Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights was established in December 2024 at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University, with funding from the European Union. The institute aims to promote legal education, academic research, and training in the fields of human rights, international humanitarian law, and international law in general. The institute seeks to strengthen legal frameworks, train legal professionals and law students, and engage civil society in spreading the culture of justice and human rights.

The Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights seeks to build a Palestinian society based on the principles of human rights, justice, and equality, where human dignity is respected without discrimination, the rule of law prevails, and adherence to international humanitarian law is deeply rooted. At the Institute, we aspire to create a legal and societal environment that supports the protection of fundamental rights and empowers individuals and institutions to promote social justice, accountability, and the rule of law. We believe that education, legal research, and capacity building are among the essential tools for consolidating this vision. We work to make the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights a leading center of knowledge and influence in the fields of human rights and international humanitarian law. This could be achieved by developing qualified legal personnel, strengthening local and international partnerships, and contributing to the development of policies and laws in accordance with international standards.

Through various activities and events, the Palestinian Institute of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights seeks to achieve the following objectives:

1. Promote and develop education in the fields of international humanitarian law at Palestinian universities by updating curricula, launching specialized training programs, deepening the knowledge of professors, and building the capacity of students, to ensure the integration of these principles into legal education.

2. Strengthen partnerships and international cooperation in the fields of human rights and international humanitarian law through academic exchange, joint research projects, and active participation in international conferences and events to enrich legal dialogue.

3. Empowering the new generation of lawyers and legal researchers by providing training opportunities, professional courses, fellowship programs, and moot court competitions, enabling them to acquire the skills necessary to defend human rights and promote justice in Palestine and abroad.

4. Promoting the principles of human rights and international humanitarian law among public sector employees, civil society organizations, and school students through dedicated educational and awareness programs that contribute to building broad societal awareness of international humanitarian law, human rights, and the mechanisms for their protection.

5. Promoting legal reforms and modernizing Palestinian legislation to ensure its alignment with international human rights and humanitarian law standards, through legal research, advocacy, and cooperation with legislative and judicial bodies.
