
January 29, 2024 – The Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National Universitym and the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, hosted a representative from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in the occupied Palestinian territory to discuss prospects for cooperation and partnership.
The university delegation, represented by Dr. Nour Adas, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Miss Bisan Abtali, Coordinator of the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights; Dr. Amjad Hassan, Head of the Law Department; and Professor Raed Al-Dab'i, Head of the Political Science Program and Assistant to the President for Community Affairs, welcomed Miss Yafa Mu'adi from OHCHR for a productive discussion on strengthening collaboration between the institutions.
During the meeting, Miss Mu'adi commended An-Najah National University for its modern facilities, academic excellence, and commitment to legal education. University representatives presented several potential programs and initiatives that could be developed in partnership with OHCHR, the Faculty of Law and Political Science, and the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. These discussions focused on creating practical learning opportunities, advancing human rights education, and integrating international law into academic and professional development programs.
It is noteworthy that the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, was established in December 2024, within the Faculty of Law with funding from the European Union. The institute will serve as a hub for academic excellence, research, and training in the fields of international law and human rights. It is expected to offer a range of specialized academic activities, research opportunities, and professional development programs for students, scholars, and legal practitioners in Palestine focusing on the fields of international law and human rights.
