The Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University, represented by Ms. Bisan Abtli, participated in the specialized research workshop on child justice in Palestine, which was held over five days from 16–20 April 2025. The workshop was organized by Defense for Children International – Palestine in partnership with five Palestinian universities, including An-Najah University, and supported by University College Cork in Ireland and the ACORN Research Network.

This research workshop comes within the context of the first research project of its kind in Palestine, which aims to build a specialized and sustainable research community on issues of child justice, in addition to strengthening academic and research capacities in this vital field. The workshop was attended by academics, researchers, and representatives of national justice institutions, including The High Judicial Council, the Public Prosecution, the Palestinian Police, and the Ministry of Social Development. The workshop focused on the legal and research frameworks of child justice, monitoring and documentation skills, evidence-based advocacy strategies, international accountability tools, and mechanisms for utilizing scientific research to influence public policy and legislation related to children’s rights.

This participation comes within the framework of the Institute’s vision to promote a culture of human rights and advance specialized academic research in international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights, by focusing on issues related to human rights, especially in relevance to the Palestinian context. This participation also contributes to enhancing the role of research as a tool for legal and social change, linking academic work to practical reality, and advancing professional dialogue on issues of justice and human rights.
