The Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights organized two specialized training programs during December 2025 on the topic of  “Documenting Human Rights Violations in Practice and Strategic and Legal Responses,” in cooperation with the Institute’s visiting professor, Professor Kiran Grewal.

The first training program was implemented at An-Najah National University – Faculty of Law and Political Science, and targeted law students from An-Najah National University and the Arab American University. The training focused on methodologies of practical human rights work, particularly skills for analyzing human rights violations and linking them to national and international legal frameworks. It also introduced participants to tactical mapping tools (Tactical Mapping), including identifying the causes and impacts of violations, relevant actors and stakeholders, and exploring possible points of intervention to address violations through effective legal and advocacy-based approaches.

The second training program was implemented at Palestine Ahliya University, and targeted law students from Palestine Ahliya University and Hebron University. It covered similar thematic areas, with a focus on building a theory of change and designing practical interventions in the field of human rights, including documentation, advocacy, and strategic litigation. The program also highlighted the limitations of international law and the importance of working within networks and rights-based coalitions.

The implementation of these two training programs comes as a part of a series of activities carried out by the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in cooperation with Palestinian universities. The programs aim to enable law students to move from theoretical knowledge to informed human rights practice, strengthen academic cooperation among Palestinian universities, and prepare a new generation of researchers and legal practitioners capable of critically and practically engaging with legal and human rights challenges in the Palestinian context. This comes within the framework of the Institute’s establishment project, funded by the European Union.
