The Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University organized a field visit on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Nablus. The visit included students from the Master’s Program in International Law and Human Rights, as well as members of the “Law and Politics Pioneers” student association from the BA programs at the faculty.

The visit aimed to introduce students to the role of international humanitarian institutions during armed conflicts and to deepen their understanding of the principles of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and their practical applications through direct exposure to the ICRC's work and modes of intervention in situations of conflict and occupation.

During the visit, the students met with several representatives of the ICRC, who provided a comprehensive overview of the organization’s history and its core principles of neutrality, independence, and impartiality. They also presented the ICRC’s key tasks, including protecting civilians, monitoring the conditions of detainees, providing humanitarian assistance, and overseeing compliance with IHL by parties to the conflict. The speakers further discussed the challenges faced by humanitarian work in the Palestinian context, particularly those related to access, the protection of vulnerable groups, and coordination with local institutions. Practical examples from the Palestinian reality were presented to illustrate how the ICRC addresses various humanitarian situations under occupation.

This visit comes as part of the activities of The EU-funded project for establishing the Palestinian Institute for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, which aims to enhance applied legal education and enable students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical realities.
