The Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Political Science of An-Najah National University, in cooperation with the Mothers' School Association, held an awareness-raising campaign on Sunday, 24 November 2024, entitled "The best interest of the child", with the aim of promoting legal and community awareness of children's rights in Palestinian laws and their implementation mechanisms.

Mr. Jalal Dwakat opened the workshop by welcoming the attendance and providing a comprehensive explanation of the concept of the best interest of the child, highlighting the associated laws, such as the Palestinian Children's Code and the Personal Status Code, and their role in protecting children's rights and ensuring their best interests in various family issues.

The workshop addressed key issues related to inclusion, nursery, viewing and hosting, focusing on the impact of these actions on children's mental and social health. The importance of applying the principle of the best interest of the child in decision-making was also addressed, and practical guidance was provided on reducing the negative effects of such measures to ensure a safe and supportive environment for the child's development and development.

The workshop saw a positive interaction from attendees who asked various questions about the topic, and the discussions resulted in practical recommendations to raise awareness of children's rights and provide solutions that minimize the negative impacts of these issues.

This workshop comes within the framework of supporting the sustainable development goals, where it contributes to the achievement of the third goal (good health and well-being) through the promotion of children's mental health, and Goal IV (Quality education) by ensuring a stable family environment that supports their education, and Goal 5 (gender equality) by taking into account the child's interest without discrimination, and Goal 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) by promoting the rule of law and protecting children as the most vulnerable.

The workshop is part of a series of awareness-raising activities carried out by the legal clinic at An-Najah National University, within the project to enhance the sustainability of the legal clinic, funded by “Sawasya 3” program, implemented in partnership with UNDP, UN-Women and UNICEF. These efforts aim to promote social justice and support the most vulnerable in Palestinian society, in line with the principles of sustainable development.
