As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance legal awareness in Palestinian society, the Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University, in partnership with the Mothers' School Society in Nablus, organized a legal workshop on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, titled "Personal Status and Family Regulations" at the headquarters of the Mothers' School Society in the Old Askar Refugee Camp.
The workshop was conducted by Attorney and Legal Consultant at the Legal Clinic, Mr. Mohammad Al-Atrash, who began the session with a welcoming speech, expressing his gratitude to the Mothers' School Society for their ongoing partnership in promoting legal awareness. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in strengthening legal culture among various segments of Palestinian society, pointing out that these efforts align with both national and international goals of promoting justice and equality.
In this context, attendees were introduced to the Legal Clinic and the nature of the services it provides, along with the procedures for accessing legal support. The session also covered Palestinian legislation regulating family matters at all stages, from the initial acquaintance and engagement stage to marriage and family building, highlighting the rights and responsibilities guaranteed by Palestinian laws for all parties involved.
The workshop addressed key topics such as the marital rights of both parties under personal status laws, as well as sensitive issues such as alimony, custody, visitation, hosting, and divorce. In this regard, a series of real-life cases were presented and legally addressed, providing practical legal guidance that reflects the challenges faced by Palestinian families.
Participants were also given the opportunity to inquire about legal issues related to personal status, with precise legal responses based on the applicable laws in Palestine. The attendees actively engaged with the trainer, reflecting the importance of the workshop in empowering individuals to understand their legal rights and obligations.
This workshop aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls. By highlighting the legal rights of individuals within Palestinian families, this workshop contributes to enhancing the legal protection and status of women. It also plays a role in promoting social justice, which is consistent with global efforts to create a more equal and just society.
In conclusion, the organization of this workshop is part of the commitment of the Legal Clinic and the Mothers' School Society to provide specialized legal services that contribute to building a more legally aware Palestinian society, enhancing individuals' ability to engage effectively with legal systems in a balanced and informed way. The workshop was attended by women, who received practical training that contributes to raising community awareness and reinforcing family justice.
These workshops are part of a series of awareness activities carried out by the Legal Clinic at An-Najah National University, within the framework of the Legal Clinic Sustainability Project, funded by Sawasya 3 Program and implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UN Women, and UNICEF.
