The Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University organized a series of training sessions for its students on "Law and Sustainable Development." The training, conducted by Dr. Mohammad Abu Shehab, took place on March 13, 25, and 28, 2025. This initiative is part of the clinic’s efforts to enhance students' legal understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their impact on Palestinian society, preparing them to address the legal challenges associated with these goals.

The training covered the legal aspects of sustainable development, focusing on social justice, good governance, and environmental protection. Emphasis was placed on relevant national and international laws and mechanisms to strengthen the rule of law in achieving fair and sustainable development. Additionally, the role of legal and judicial institutions in promoting legal and social sustainability was explored, while students discussed the challenges Palestine faces in implementing these goals amid economic and political obstacles.

Furthermore, the training included practical sessions, where students were tasked with analyzing case studies related to the application of law in sustainable development areas, such as environmental rights protection, ensuring equal legal opportunities, and enhancing transparency in governmental institutions. They were also trained on utilizing legal tools to address development-related issues, thereby improving their research and analytical skills.

This training reflects the Legal Clinic’s commitment to providing advanced educational programs that strengthen students’ awareness of the role of law in achieving sustainable development. It also equipped them with the necessary legal skills to understand and analyze issues related to social justice, environmental rights protection, and governance transparency.

The training is part of a series of awareness-raising activities implemented by the Legal Clinic under the Legal Clinic Sustainability Enhancement Project, funded by Sawasya 3 program and carried out in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and UNICEF. The project aims to empower students to contribute effectively to achieving sustainable development goals through sound legal practices.
