The Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University held a legal awareness workshop on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, titled “The Legal Framework of the Crime of Fraud and Bank Impersonation.” The event was organized in cooperation with the Women’s Activity Center in New Askar Camp as part of the clinic’s ongoing efforts to promote legal and community awareness and address the social and legal risks associated with cyber and financial crimes.
The workshop was presented by Ms. Lama Al-Khatib and Ms. Amina Ramadan, volunteers with the Legal Clinic, who discussed the concept and forms of fraud, and the methods used by perpetrators, particularly the impersonation of banks or financial institutions through phone calls or fake electronic messages aimed at stealing individuals’ money or banking information. Also highlighted the motives behind such crimes, the appropriate legal actions to take in case of exposure, as well as preventive measures that enable individuals to protect themselves and respond effectively to financial fraud attempts.
The session witnessed active and dynamic participation from attendees, who shared real-life experiences similar to the cases discussed, enriching the dialogue and providing practical insights into legal and community protection mechanisms against these crimes. The discussion reflected the participants’ growing awareness of the importance of recognizing fraudulent behavior and adopting safe and informed practices in their daily lives.
This workshop supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 1 (No Poverty) by raising awareness on protecting individuals from financial loss due to fraud, Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by empowering women participants with legal and preventive knowledge, and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening trust in financial institutions and promoting safe financial transactions. It also contributes to Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by enhancing awareness of the rule of law and protecting citizens from financial crimes.
This workshop is part of a series of awareness activities implemented by the Legal Clinic at An-Najah National University under the project “Enhancing the Sustainability of the Legal Clinic,” funded by the Sawasya III Programme, and jointly implemented with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and UNICEF. These efforts aim to promote social justice and support the most vulnerable groups in Palestinian society, in line with the principles of sustainable development and the promotion of the rule of law in Palestine.
