The An-Najah Legal Incubator, affiliated with the Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University, conducted a field visit on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, for its incubator pioneers to the Public Prosecution Office in Nablus.
During the visit, the participants met with the Chief Public Prosecutor in Nablus, Mr. Khalil Salameh, where a professional discussion was held on the role and mandate of the Public Prosecution, its core functions in initiating and pursuing criminal proceedings, and the procedural stages of criminal cases from investigation through referral to the competent courts.
Mr. Salameh delivered a comprehensive overview of the organizational structure of the Public Prosecution, its various departments, and internal workflows. He also highlighted the legal role of the Prosecution in safeguarding society, ensuring the application of the law, and upholding justice. Practical case examples were presented to illustrate procedural and legal aspects of prosecutorial work.
The visit included an interactive discussion session, during which the incubator participants raised specialized questions related to the practical application of the Criminal Procedure Law, the role of lawyers during the investigation phase, and fair trial guarantees. These questions were addressed in depth, contributing to strengthening the participants’ practical legal understanding.
Ms. Safa Balawi, Director of the Legal Clinic and the An-Najah Legal Incubator, emphasized the importance of such visits in strengthening experiential legal education and connecting young lawyers with justice institutions. She also expressed her appreciation to Mr. Khalil Salameh and the staff of the Public Prosecution in Nablus for their warm reception and cooperation, affirming the continuation of joint cooperation in future legal activities and programs.
At the conclusion of the visit, participants emphasized the importance of such professional engagements in bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and practical application, particularly in the field of criminal law, thereby enhancing their professional readiness.
This visit falls within the ongoing efforts of the An-Najah Legal Incubator to promote experiential legal training and provide young lawyers with direct exposure to justice institutions, contributing to the development of their professional competencies and readiness for the legal market.
This activity is part of a series of training and capacity-building initiatives implemented by the Legal Clinic under the project “Enhancing the Sustainability of the Legal Clinic,” funded by the Sawasya III Programme, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and UNICEF.
