As a Hafiza of the Holy Qur’an and a law student, my journey in memorizing the Qur’an began during my school years and was later solidified through the Qur’an Forum at the university. I cannot hide that this experience was a mixture of both fatigue and success, oscillating between mistakes and mastery in memorization. Yet, these mistakes were never a reason to give up; rather, they became a motivation to continue. This is one of the great mercies of the Qur’an for its memorizers: if you make a mistake and repeat it, you are rewarded twice.
“Knowledge and religion don’t contradict each other”—I can almost say this is the motto of all Qur’an memorizers. Many have asked me how I managed to balance my studies with my memorization.
The answer is that the Qur’an surrounds its memorizers with blessings in every aspect of their lives. Allocating a daily portion of memorization and reading was never an obstacle to university studies, and even contributed to excelling in them. During the memorization journey, one witnesses growth in character, refinement in manner, eloquence, fluency, and intellectual elevation. This is what the Qur’an instills in its memorizers, making them distinguished wherever they go.
