Before entering the world of debates, I was certain that debate would shape my personality and enhance my discussion skills. Although I initially thought it was merely an activity to fill my free time, after the experience, I found myself prioritizing it above everything else. Through debate, I was able to develop my verbal abilities, expand my knowledge, and strengthen my self-confidence. As Al-Shafi‘i, may God have mercy on him, was once asked about the mind—whether it is innate—he replied: “No, but it is cultivated through sitting with men and debating with people.” I believe that debate improves mental capacities, whether through thinking or discussion. It has also had a positive impact on my chosen field, law, as it helped me advocate with a strong personality, fully prepared to stand before a judge in the future.
I participated in an intensive debate training organized by the Palestinian Women’s Foundation, and I am proud to be part of the An-Najah Debate Society, which was a fundamental support in my debate journey. I also took part in an international competition held recently, which was a unique experience. It was far from a traditional experience—the challenge of preparing your argument in just twenty minutes and successfully delivering it is an achievement to be proud of for a lifetime.
