As part of its efforts to promote legal awareness and enhance public understanding of personal status law, the An-Najah Legal Incubator, operating under the Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at An-Najah National University, conducted a legal awareness campaign entitled “The Legal Implications of the Dissolution of the Marital Bond” on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at the Mothers’ School Association in Nablus. The campaign was delivered by Legal Incubator participants Isra Afana and Aseel Abu Dhiab.

The campaign targeted members of the local community and focused on raising awareness of the legal mechanisms governing the dissolution of marriage under the Palestinian Personal Status Law. Participants were introduced to the different forms of termination of the marital relationship, including unilateral divorce, divorce by mutual redemption, and judicial separation, together with the legal procedures and requirements applicable to each.

The session also examined the legal consequences arising from the dissolution of the marital bond, including financial rights and obligations between spouses, waiting periods, maintenance, deferred dowry, child custody, and other legal effects regulated by the applicable legislation. In addition, participants were introduced to the principal grounds for judicial separation, including defect, harm, abandonment, failure to provide maintenance, imprisonment, and marital discord, as well as the legal conditions governing each ground.

The campaign featured an interactive discussion during which participants raised practical questions and examined real-life cases relating to the legal rights and obligations arising from the termination of marriage. This contributed to enhancing their legal awareness and strengthening their understanding of the legal protections available under Palestinian law.

The campaign forms part of the An-Najah Legal Incubator's ongoing efforts to promote legal literacy and improve public access to legal knowledge, thereby enabling individuals to make informed legal decisions and better safeguard their family rights.

This initiative contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) through the dissemination of legal knowledge, Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting awareness of legal rights within the family, and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by strengthening legal awareness and improving access to justice.

The campaign is part of the awareness and capacity-building activities implemented by the Legal Clinic under the project "Enhancing the Sustainability of the Legal Clinic," funded through the Sawasya III Programme in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
