The Program has a long-standing commitment to providing substantive internship opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs from all fields of science and engineering, as well as law students.

Candidates should have an interest in the intersection of science and technology, human rights, ethics and the law; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a strong academic background - all fields will be considered. Undergraduates, graduate students, law students and post-docs are all eligible to apply for the internship. 

Scheduling is flexible, but interns are expected to work at least four days per week for a minimum of 32 hours per week. Internships are for a period of 10-12 weeks, with preference given to candidates who can intern for at least 12 weeks.

Interns work closely with AAAS staff across a range of projects, helping to prepare proposals, participate in on-going research, organize meetings, and contribute to publications. They also have the opportunity to attend relevant conferences and meetings in the Washington, D.C. area, and write for the Program's newsletter, Professional Ethics Report. Internships are paid, however, the Program is unable to subsidize expenses related to housing or travel. The Program will accommodate students interested in receiving course credit. Requests for course credit must be pre-approved by your academic department and indicated in your application.

The Program is interested in an intern with experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing to work with the Geospatial Technologies Project. The Project seeks an undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in geography, remote sensing or a related field. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply. Applicants with GIS or image processing experience (e.g., ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, etc.) are preferred.
