On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, An-Najah National University launched an interactive student awareness initiative entitled “Towards a Safe and Responsible Digital University Environment”, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and with support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The initiative originated as a student-led idea developed within the “Human Rights and Gender” course, with the aim of transforming theoretical and human rights concepts into practical awareness activities that promote digital rights awareness and responsible conduct within the university environment and the digital sphere.

The initiative was implemented under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, and under the guidance of Ms. Safa Balawi, lecturer at the Faculty and Director of the Legal Clinic. The event brought together academics, representatives of partner institutions, students enrolled in the Human Rights course, Legal Clinic students, and members of the Law and Politics Pioneers group.

The initiative featured three interactive stations addressing key topics, including human rights, digital violence and safe online behavior, as well as protection and reporting mechanisms. The event witnessed significant engagement from participating students through a range of interactive and awareness-raising activities designed to foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and digital citizenship within the university community.

For her part, Dr. Noor Adas, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, emphasized the importance of student initiatives that bridge academic learning with practical application and contribute to strengthening students’ professional and human rights values. She also commended the students’ efforts in organizing and implementing the interactive activities.

The event concluded with students and guests signing a “Pledge Against Digital Violence” poster, reaffirming their commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, and responsible digital university environment.

Mr. Ayman Houdali, Head of the Counseling, Guidance and Student Affairs Unit and Director of the Amal Project at the Ministry, noted that the initiative represents one of the practical applications of the unified “Human Rights and Gender” course, which was developed and launched under the Amal Project to promote a culture of dialogue, justice, and gender equality. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education with support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and the course is currently being taught at a number of Palestinian universities.
